GH2 India has proudly announced its endorsement of the COP29 Hydrogen Declaration, a pivotal initiative led by the COP29 Presidency in Baku, Azerbaijan. This declaration underscores the critical role of renewable, clean, and low-carbon hydrogen in advancing the global energy transition, decarbonising hard-to-abate sectors, and promoting sustainable economic growth.
The Hydrogen Declaration, endorsed by governments, international organisations, and private sector leaders, reflects a shared commitment to accelerating the production and deployment of green hydrogen globally. It also addresses key challenges such as developing global standards, fostering cross-border collaboration, and integrating hydrogen technologies into national energy strategies.
Nishaanth Balashanmugam, Director of GH2 India, stated, "The Hydrogen Declaration aligns seamlessly with our vision to make green hydrogen a cornerstone of the energy transition. GH2 India is committed to supporting this initiative by leveraging our expertise, fostering international collaboration, and promoting innovative solutions to scale up hydrogen adoption."
Speaking on the global significance of this initiative, Rolf Behrndt, Senior Advisor at GH2 India, remarked, “India is well-positioned to play a key role in the global market ramp-up of green hydrogen, given it’s abundant and cost-competitive renewable energy, committed Government with policies covering all key aspects of green hydrogen, and a great number of dynamic firms developing and implementing green hydrogen projects.”
Adding a regional perspective, Arun Mahesh Babu, IAS, Managing Director of Gujarat Power Corporation Limited, stated, “We welcome GH2 India's endorsement of the COP29 Hydrogen Pledge, calling on nations to scale clean hydrogen production. Gujarat has already attracted the highest amount of investments for green hydrogen in India and has a target to produce over 3 million metric tonnes by 2030. With over 130 GW of renewable energy earmarked for green hydrogen production, we are committed to enabling India’s leadership in global decarbonisation efforts and realising the vision of a sustainable future.”
GH2 India's endorsement of the declaration reinforces its dedication to advancing global standards for green hydrogen certification, fostering equitable transitions, and ensuring environmental stewardship throughout the hydrogen value chain. GH2 India also aims to play a crucial role in facilitating public-private partnerships, knowledge-sharing initiatives, and capacity-building programmes to accelerate hydrogen deployment across emerging markets and developing economies.
This commitment follows GH2 India's ongoing efforts to position India as a leader in the global green hydrogen economy. By championing international initiatives like the Hydrogen Declaration, GH2 India continues to strengthen its role as a catalyst for sustainable energy solutions that address climate change and drive economic prosperity.
