We are delighted to announce that CETFI, in collaboration with DSK Legal, successfully conducted a high-impact roundtable discussion focused on innovative structures and models to access institutional finance for climate and energy transition. The event brought together key stakeholders, including banks, industry representatives, and climate finance experts, to explore the complexities and opportunities in the field.

Our esteemed chief guest, Mr. U.K. graced the session Sinha, former Chairperson of SEBI, who underscored the enormity of the climate challenge. He emphasised the importance of a unified effort from government, industry, and investors, and called for comprehensive solutions rather than piecemeal approaches. Mr. Sinha highlighted that the government is ready to consider solutions in their entirety and implement them to drive impactful change.

Key discussions during the roundtable included:

Making technology more affordable for widespread adoption

De-risking investments in climate projects to attract more institutional investors

Overcoming limitations faced by institutional investors in climate finance

Tapping into both domestic and international capital markets to mobilise funds

In addition to these critical topics, Mr. Sinha highlighted the role of regulators in enabling climate finance. He referenced initiatives such as SEBI's BUSINESS RESPONSIBILITY & SUSTAINABILITY REPORTING, emphasising the need for enforceable actions and quantifiable metrics. The potential for social impact bonds and integrating climate initiatives into priority lending sectors were also key points of discussion.

Furthermore, the roundtable addressed ways to mitigate FX risks, enable capital flow to non-OECD countries, and explore the creation of new asset classes like First-of-a-Kind investments. These discussions are essential in expediting the deployment of technologies crucial to combating climate change.

This roundtable also served as a curtain-raiser for the upcoming India International CETFI Forum in London, scheduled from 25-27 September 2024. We look forward to continuing these vital conversations and advancing the global climate finance agenda.

Stay tuned for more updates from CETFI as we continue to lead discussions and initiatives in climate finance and energy transition.
